Safran Landing Systems, Cheltenham
JRA Fire Safety Advisors were appointed to deliver a comprehensive programme of fire risk assessment services across the Safran Landing Systems estate at Churchdown, Gloucester. The commission encompassed a large and diverse portfolio of buildings, including manufacturing, testing, storage, office, security, and support facilities, each with differing operational activities, risk profiles, and construction characteristics.
The scope of services delivered by JRA Fire Safety Advisors included full fire risk assessments for all buildings across the site, rather than limited annual reviews. This approach enabled a detailed, up-to-date understanding of fire risk at both individual building level and across the wider estate, supporting Safran’s proactive commitment to maintaining compliance and continuously improving fire safety management.
Given the scale and complexity of the site, JRA Fire Safety Advisors adopted a coordinated, building-by-building assessment approach, ensuring consistency in reporting while allowing each premises to be assessed in the context of its specific use, occupancy, processes, and hazards. The assessments reviewed physical fire precautions, management arrangements, emergency procedures, maintenance regimes, and interaction between buildings, providing Safran with a clear and structured evidence base.
Alongside the individual assessments, JRA Fire Safety Advisors supported Safran through strategic fire safety advice, including estate-wide observations on fire safety culture, staff engagement, maintenance practices, and longer-term improvement planning. This included input into the consolidation of findings, prioritisation of actions, and support for Safran’s wider fire safety governance and forward planning.
This programme demonstrates JRA Fire Safety Advisors’ capability to deliver large-scale, multi-asset fire risk assessment services for complex industrial clients. Our work provided Safran Landing Systems with clear, proportionate, and defensible fire safety information, supporting regulatory compliance, operational continuity, and the ongoing development of a mature and resilient fire safety management system across a critical aerospace manufacturing estate.
